Further to this, its diverse student population has enabled it to be recently identified as North America’s most international university.

UBC is divided into two campuses: the main campus in Point Grey, Vancouver, and the Oknagan campus in Kelowna which is in the heart of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley.

It also has two satellite campuses within Vancouver for Medical Sciences and Part-time/Non-credit programmes respectively. UBC also forms partnerships with post-secondary institutions in the area as a means of offering accredited courses for the local community.

The academic activity of the university is organized into twelve major faculties in the Point Grey campus and seven faculties in the Oknagan campus.

The university provides several more facilities to students in addition to the research opportunities. The UBC library system is one of the largest libraries in Canada that houses a collection of over 9 million volumes. Students are represented by the Alma Mater Society which functions as the student union. The campus has several restaurants, cafes, a pub and nightclub, as well as shops and a post office for the students.

The university also follows the Greek Organisation system, similar to that of colleges in the United States. Athletics plays a major role in the university as well with their sports teams called the Thunderbirds.

University of British Columbia – UBC Acceptance Rate

The admission rate at the University of British Columbia is estimated to be 46%. The UBC acceptance rate is very high according to US standards. Now, let’s discuss why the rate is so high.

First, the University is very big that they can accept a lot of students. The smaller schools such as the Ivy Leagues have such a low acceptance rate because they can accept so many people. However, large institutions such as UBC can accept many more students.

Second, the population in Canada is small and is around 35 million, which is 1/10 of the US population. Because of the small population, there are a small number of domestic students for many large institutions. So, they need to accept more students including international students to fill the quota.

Even though the University of British Columbia is a prestigious University, the UBC acceptance rate is not quite as high as you might expect.
