Study Abroad with Low Tuition Universities in Germany

Today’s subject is studying abroad at low tuition universities in Germany, tuition fees, living costs and job rate. German universities have low tuition fees, such as 500 Euros/semester, while private universities can have higher fees.

In Germany, most of the courses offered at universities are in German. You can start to think about this as an international student.

It’s good to let you know that more and more English courses are being taught, even at cheap universities in Germany.

How Education is in Germany

In terms of international rankings, there are about 70 universities and about 10% of them are in the top 200 (worldwide ranking). Notice the words which are widely used in Germany:

  • Universitat; This is an institution which grants doctorates.
  • Fachhochschule; This is an association that focuses on technical and practical training.
  • TestAS; This is an aptitude test for foreign students from non-EU countries who want to study at a German university as a graduate student. Any special expertise is not needed. It tests skills that are required for a successful course of study. In several countries, it is possible to take this exam. Twice a year you can use TestAS. It is offered in the English and German languages.

Bachelors Admission Requirements

Below are the general admission criteria for foreign students if you are intending to study in Germany at the undergraduate level. For other demands that are not mentioned here, you will need to visit the website of your university of choice.

Notice that before thinking of studying in Germany as an international student, you must already apply for higher education studies in your home country.

You would have to demonstrate a “Hochschulzugangsberechtigung” or “university entrance qualification” if you want to study at a German university. This qualification for university entry is effectively a school certificate/result. This outcome would qualify you for college studies. If your high school diploma is not up to the standard level for studying in Germany, you will have to study at the Studienkolleg before you can enroll.

Undergraduate entry requirements

  • A valid school leaving certificate
  • English/German proficiency results
  • You must pass any additional entry tests (especially for competitive courses)

Masters Admission Requirements

As a foreign student applying for a master’s program at an institution in Germany, you must be in possession of a master’s programme in Germany.

  • Result of English/German proficiency
  • Your Undergraduate Studies Certificate and Transcript
  • Any additional entry tests you must pass (especially for competitive courses)
  • Students can need a specific score from recognized exams, such as GMAT or GRE, for business schools and MBA programs.

PhD Admission Requirements

You would need to be in possession of the document below for PhD study.

  • A related certificate of master’s degree.

Language Requirements at Universities in Germany

1. German

For the results of German language proficiency, all of the results obtained during one of the following exams are accepted;

  • German Language Proficiency Test for Foreign
  • Applicants’ Admission to Higher Education (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber– DSH). At your university in Germany, you should have it.
  • Test for foreign applicants in German as a Foreign Language-Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache für ausländische Studienbewerber-TestDaF.
  • As part of the Feststellungsprüfung (assessment test), you can also take the German language exam at the Studienkolleg.

2. English

In addition, if you don’t have the requisite level of command to successfully complete the chosen study program, you might also be required to take a course in English. Therefore you can check with your host university if your current English level is appropriate.

Akademische Prüfstelle (APS)

Before you can apply for higher education in Germany, students from China must have their qualifications pre-checked by the academic verification office of the German embassy in Beijing (Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) der Deutschen Botschaft in Beijing). This process simplifies the application process at German universities and speeds up the issuance of a visa to study.

Cost of Living in Germany for International Students

Living expenses is inexpensive and affordable in Germany. You need to realize that in Germany, education is not entirely free, as students would have to budget for their own living expenses.

The cost of lodging, food, transport, books, stationery, health care, registration fees and so on is estimated at 600 euros.

So the estimated cost of living is set at EUR 8000 in one year. This is an average amount; it may be more or less than that. Since different people have different lifestyles, it depends on the person involved. Often a visa must be issued.

But before it is given, you will need to demonstrate proof that while studying in Germany, you can afford to take care of yourself.

Two methods of doing this are;

  • Open a blocked German account with a value of 8000euro
  • Send a letter from a supporter received from a friend or relative in Germany who is able to take care of your living costs in Germany

You need to visit your home country’s German embassy to get more details about how to obtain a visa.

Tuition Fees in German Universities

In particular, as compared to countries such as the UK, Australia or the USA, the tuition fees for German universities are inexpensive and affordable. The cost of tuition varies from program to program and is estimated at EUR 500 per semester.

As their tuition charges are higher, this is not the case for private universities. We also encourage you and your preferred institution to check this out.
