Find out how your Canada student visa can be processed; the visa charge, requirements and when to apply. Although admission to Top Universities in Canada continues to require an outstanding academic ranking, the study permit is usually approved by a visa embassy.

You will need a study permit before you enter Canada if you wish to take formal, technical or vocational training at a university, college or other educational institution in Canada. I reviewed the requirements for applications and visa fees.

On arrival in Canada, this study permit is given to students. Before traveling for studies, however a student must first apply for a temporary resident permit issued by the High Commission of Canada and supported by the Visa Application Centers. The designated VACs for Canadian Visa are VFS Global Services.

How much is the cost for the Canada Student Visa?

At the time of writing this review, the research permit for Canada costs CAD$ 150. Online and offline, Canadian Visa Applications are eligible. As such, visa processing fees can be charged either online (using a credit card) or offline (using a draft request if payable by the High Commission of Canada) or in cash at the VAC.

This fee must be charged when the application is submitted or when an online payment receipt is made available. The appropriate Demand Draft is to be drawn out in Indian rupees in favour of the High Commission of Canada. VACs only accept cash payments.

The visa fee listed also does not include the charges for the VAC service. You will have to pay the extra service fees for your area as applicable. A receipt for each payment received will also be given. As evidence of payment please keep the receipt.

What documents are required to apply for a Canadian student visa?

After you get the college acceptance letter, you can apply for a student visa. If you are targeting the September intake, you should start the visa process around June. The documents required to apply are as follows;

  • Valid passport; To be eligible to apply for a study permit, you will need a valid passport. It is necessary for the Canadian High Commission to have a passport that extends its validity to cover your intended stay in Canada. For example, your passport should be valid until at least September 2018 if you intend to travel to Canada in September 2016 for a two-year course.
  • Evidence of admission by a designated learning institution; you will need the university/institute acceptance letter you expect to join. The university that is accredited by the Department of Immigration is a designated learning institute. You will also need a CAQ if you are applying for Quebec, which you will be informed.
  • Evidence of Sufficient Funds; You will have to submit proof of funds at the time of request for your Study Permit. You will have to show, as per the existing requirements, that you would have enough funds to pay our tuition fees and take care of living expenses. Canadian Immigration considers that for every year of your stay, a student will need at least Canadian $10,000. The student will also have to demonstrate, apart from the above two, that he/she also has enough funds for a return fair. Note; you will have to submit proof of fees charged as well as the stipulated cost of living @ CAD 10,000 when filling out the application form.
  • Photographs of the passport size; If you opted for an offline application, you would require two photographs of the passport size that comply with the standards provided. You must obtain a digital copy of the image for an online application that does not exceed 4MB. Other criteria for neutral facial expression, clear context and no headgear (unll) are common. Note; the image should be at least 35 mm x 45 mm in size, and the image should be fresh (not older than 6 months).
  • Immigration Medical Examination (IME); Canadian Immigration requires a compulsory Immigration Medical Examination of empanelled doctors for foreign students from India. For a medical test, students will have to book and designate and visit the mentioned physicians, preferably a week before they begin their visa application. This is to allow the doctor enough time for the requisite documentation to be validated and uploaded. It is often recommended to book an appointment in advance with the nearest facility/practitioner as per the list of empanelled physicians. A full medical evaluation will be conducted by the panel doctor and you will be referred for chest x-rays and laboratory tests. The physician will give the results to CIC once your exam has been completed.
  • English Language Proficiency Exam Score; We highly suggest that you have appeared for and received your English Language Proficiency Score before you start your Visa Application Process, although not mandatory at the time of application. As it is to validate your admission to the Canadian University, you would have had to present your English language proficiency score. Everything appropriate are TOEFL, IELTS, etc.
  • Statement of Intent; You can submit an essay explaining the purpose of your trip to Canada and why you have selected the specific institution when applying for a Canadian Study Permit. This will be needed in the checklist as an optional document, but we highly suggest that you send the same document.
  • Credit Card; If you apply online, you will also need a credit card to pay the processing charge. Canada’s Visa Application Fee is CAD$150. Please note that credit cards are only approved by the system and not debit cards. It’s also not necessary for it to be your credit card. If you have the express permission to do so you can use your parent’s cards as well.

In addition, you would need access to a digital scanner if you wanted to apply online. If you are applying offline, however you should have real copies of all the documents listed above.

It is important to remember that you will be expected to download a few documents when applying online, fill them out, print them, sign them, and then upload them. The availability of the scanner must also be planned.

The device helps you to upload a good quality digital picture as well. We recommend a camera scanner, though.

Documents to Support Your Application

Additional documentation can be requested by the interviewer during the personal interview. These may be papers to prove academic or financial status facts. These may comprise;

  • Transcripts, diplomas, degrees, or qualifications from schools attended by you
  • Test scores, such as TOEFL, SAT, GRE, or GMAT,
  • On completion of the course of study, your plan to leave Canada
  • How to pay for all the expenses of schooling, living and traveling

Time for Processing Canada Student Visa

Check the processing time. It could take anywhere from 3-4 weeks for the visa application cycle. To understand the average time taken to process the student visa, it is best to go through the Canadian consulate website. Please note that the shown time is not a guarantee and is an estimation only.

Procedure of Applying for Canadian Student Visa

  • You must have access to a printer or camera to make electronic copies of your documents for uploading and have a valid credit card for payment in order to apply online. At the regional Visa Application Centre (VAC), you will also be asked to have a finger scan. Know, you need to visit the VFS offices to hand over your passports in the case of online application and also need to include proof of form and fee payment. The measures will only differ in terms of the documents that you need to bring to the VAC.
  • Applying in Person; Download and read the instruction guide for the application package. There is relevant information about research permits in the guidance guide and directions to help you complete your application. Carefully read the guide and use the checklist for documents.
  • Complete the VFS Consent Form and link your submission form to it. To get the help of VFS services for your visa filing process, you need this form.
    Pay the processing fee- Notice that visa fees must be charged in addition to VFS Global service fees when sending an application via the VFS, in person or by mail. In all situations, the transaction charge is non-refundable.

If you are accompanied by your spouse/common-law partner and/or children and you apply for temporary resident visas, employment permits or study permits for them, then you will need to pay them the necessary processing fees.

Send your application and supporting documents-The nearest VFS office must be visited. Pay the service charges once you are there and hand them your full application to receive a receipt. This receipt provides your unique tracking number that you will use to control the online progress of your application.

You will receive notice from the Government of Canada asking for your passport in the event that your application is accepted. You may send a letter demanding your passport and passport in person or via VFS. A Temporary Resident Visa and a letter of introduction will be issued to you.

Receiving Canada Study Visa

You are expected to bring to Canada the Letter of Introduction along with all the documents mentioned. You’d have to face an immigration officer at the airport. Visa for Dependents

On a Dependent Visa, spouses may accompany full-time students. You just need to demonstrate that there are sufficient funds available for their support. If their stay is for a year or more, partners may also work full time.

In certain cases, if you’re accompanying your spouse or common-law partner to Canada, you can apply for an open work permit. With an open work visa, when you get to Canada, you can find and approve any work. In order to apply for your work permit, you do not need a job offer or a favorable labor market effect evaluation.

Can I Study and Work in Canada with my Study Permit?

To work while studying in Canada, you do not need a separate work permit. You are permitted to work on campus and off campus with a valid study permit. You are permitted to work off campus for up to a maximum of 20 hours a week during the term. With the exception of these, you

Canada’s Post Study Job Permits

The conditions for qualifying to receive a Post Study Work Permit are as follows;

  • In Canada, you should have completed a full-time course.
  • It should have been over 8 months for the duration of your course.
  • You must have graduated from either a post-secondary public institution or a post-secondary private institution or Within three months (90 days) of obtaining an official letter indicating that you have successfully completed your education at the university, you can apply for a work permit.
  • The work permit will only be issued to you if you have a student visa.
  • You will not get a work permit for longer than the length of your course. If the length of your course is eight months, then you will be given a work permit for eight months. If the length of your course is more than two years, then you can obtain a three-year work permit.
