Estonia is a very affordable study abroad in Europe destination for international students. They have very cheap universities and other institutions. Their cities are affordable for average students to reside and study. It is a member of the European Union.

Tuition Fees in Estonian Schools

Cost of studying in Estonian universities varies with institution. This is because different schools charge fees depending on level of study and specialization. The estimated tuition fees ranges between 8,000 to 11,000 Euros per year.

There are no free tuition universities in Estonia,  but their universities or schools are very affordable.

Cost of Living in Estonia

If you reside in school hostel, you may be paying 100 euros or even less for a single or double room. If you choose to live outside the school’s premises, you may be paying from 180 to 500 euros per month for double flat or flat with 3 rooms. It is less expensive to live in the school compound.

Cost of Feeding

You can cook your meals or buy from restaurants in school, the choice is yours. You will likely spend about 250 to 300 euros per month on feeding. If you like to eat much food, then prepare to spend about 500 euros per month on food alone.

Transportation

If you are studying in Tallin, transportation is free for residents of Tallin. But this is solely for public transport.

Other cities do charge 8.90 euros per month with discounts for students. You need to be going out with your student card.

Cost of entering taxi depending on the company is from €0.6 per kilometer.

Sport

Are you planning to join the school’s sport club, group training is usually from 50 to 100 euros per semester depending on the school or 30 to 40 euros per month.

Scholarships

Estonian Government Scholarships are awarded to students to come to Estonia and read taught courses or do research. This is obtainable in public schools.

Fully funded scholarships are usually awarded to graduate students studying masters or doctorate. The scholarships given to undergraduates are usually not fully funded. They are mainly grants to aid with tuition or living cost.

Language requirements for studies at universities in Estonia

The following languages are used in teaching in Estonian schools.

Estonian language

Some course may require Estonian language to complete, so if you are not fluent, you will need to enroll in their language school or program and study it for at least six months before you begin your main program. This is for international students that cannot proof their proficiency in the language.

English language

As an international student, if your country’s first language is not English, you will have to proof your proficiency in the language by either presenting a TOEFL or IELTS exam result or written statement that your previous course was taught in English language from the school you went to.
